DAY 29 — The Pearl: A Work in Progress
“He who has begun a good work in you will complete it...” — Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)
Promise to Believe
I am unfinished, but I am not abandoned—God started a good work in me, and He will finish what He started.
A Work in Progress
Have you ever looked at yourself and thought, “I should be further along by now?”
I have.
We see the attitudes that still need changing, thoughts that need renewing, weaknesses that keep surfacing, and places where Jesus is not yet being expressed as clearly as we desire. If we are not careful, spiritual growth can become another reason to condemn ourselves.
But Paul gives us a different perspective: God is still working.
Paul did not say, “You started a good work in yourself, so make sure you finish it.” He said, “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it.”
What God starts, God intends to finish.
That does not make us passive. We surrender. We obey. We renew our minds. We respond to the Holy Spirit. But we never forget the Source of the transformation.
“For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” — Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
We participate, but He provides the power.
Think again about the pearl. A pearl is formed layer by layer. It does not become beautiful overnight. What begins as an irritation eventually becomes something precious.
Maybe you are looking at an unfinished area of your life and calling it failure while God is calling it progress.
Look back for a moment. Things that once controlled you no longer control you. Situations that once stole your peace no longer have the same power. Offenses you once carried for months you now release more quickly. Truths you once struggled to understand have become part of how you live.
That is grace at work.
The exchanged life does not mean instant perfection. It means I have stopped trying to transform myself and have learned to cooperate with the Holy Spirit who is transforming me.
So quit measuring yourself only by how far you have to go. Occasionally turn around and see how far grace has already brought you.
What a beautiful exchange. I exchange condemnation for confidence, frustration for expectation, and self-effort for surrender.
I am not finished.
But neither is God.
I am a pearl in progress—and the One working in me always finishes what He starts.
Prayer of Faith
Precious Heavenly Father, thank You that You are still working in me. When I become frustrated with my progress, remind me that You have not abandoned Your process.
Holy Spirit, I surrender every unfinished area to You. I exchange condemnation for confidence, frustration for expectation, and self-effort for dependence upon You.
I am a pearl in progress, and I trust You to continue forming something beautiful in me. You started this good work, and I believe You will finish what You started.
I am loved by You, precious Heavenly Father, filled with Your Holy Spirit, and alive in You, my precious Savior, Jesus Christ. In the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
